Fish: In India, the Fish Eating population is divided into two major section, Marine Fish eaters and Freshwater Fish Eaters. So many rivers originating from the Himalayas are the source of Freshwater Fishes like Catfish and Carp. Availability Proximity to Fishing Port always guarantee the best supply. It also provides the opportunity to buy in a bargain price, where as landlocked places usually offer a higher fixed price Freshness Again, proximity to a Fishing Harbour ensures the freshest supply, a visit to the local fish market is the place to source latest catch. Distant places usually sells frozen and processed fish Percentage of Wastage Wastage is less in processed purchase, so if you prefer fresh supply you have to bear the cost of wastage. Buying tip at the market: Fish should smell of the sea (marine) and riverweed (freshwater) There should be no unpleasant fishy odour Eyes should be bright Gills should be Red/Light pink in colour No finger impression to be left on the skin when pressed Should be purchased daily as far as possible Nutritional Aspect: All Seafood is rich in Protein All Seafood is low in saturated fat All Seafood provides Poly Unsaturated Fat including precious Omega-3 All fish are low in cholesterol Seafood food is excellent source of Iodine, that mineral that modulates the thyroid gland Seafood excellent source of Niacin (Vitamin B3), essential for healthy skin Seafood also supplies Vitamin A, D and B1 and B12
