A sweet, tangy and spicy dish served as accompaniment with full course meal  Introduction: Should Tomato Chatni be termed as the Indian version of Tomato Ketchup? Perhaps not! It’s not just accompaniment but a dish of its own merit. It can be served any time with any meal. If it’s made with Date and Raisin, then with the elevated class, Tomato Chatni makes its way into the main menu of a grand feast. Tomato Chatni Recipe: Preparation time 5 minutes Cooking time 15 minutes Serves 4 Difficulty Level easy Ingredients: 500gms Tomato diced into medium pieces 1 cup Date de-seeded 2 Tablespoon raisin soaked in water 1 Teaspoon whole mustard seeds 1-2 whole dried Red Chillies 1 Cup Sugar Salt to taste 1 Tablespoon Red Chilli Powder 1 Tablespoon cooking Oil Instructions: Heat oil in a Wok or Kadai Add the whole Red Chilli and the Mustard seeds Allow the mustard seeds to crackle Now add the diced tomatoes Add little salt and Red Chilli Powder Cover and cook for 10 minutes Now the Tomatoes should be wilted Add the Sugar and Raisins Cook on low heat till the melted sugar thickens and makes a Jelly like consistency Now add the de-seeded Dates stir well to mix it Check for seasoning and adjust salt and sweetness according to taste Tomato Chatni is now ready, its best served cold
